In this guide, you will find instructions on how to diagnose the Fiat check engine light yourself. The problem could be something as simple as a loose gas cap fault code P or an indication of another problem ranging from turbo boost issue, engine malfunction or misfire and even transmission problem.
Without reading the codes, it is impossible to know why your Fiat check engine light is on. You will learn how to read codes in the next section. The symptoms of Fiat check engine light vary. Sometimes you may not notice any performance issues at all.
If you don't notice any performance issues, you can continue to drive your Fiat but get it diagnosed as soon as possible. Without diagnosing the vehicle it is difficult to know what the problem is in your particular case. If you scan your Fiat and the code that you get a code for EVAP leak, make sure you tighten the gas cap until you hear two clicks. If the CEL comes back replace the gas cap. If the CEL comes back on again, with a code for a small EVAP system leak, have a mechanic or your Fiat dealer would have to perform a smoke test to find the leak.
It is strongly recommended to write down the code and research the problem. Many owners get a code and start replacing parts based on the code alone. Later they find out that the replaced part didn't fix the problem. Don't start replacing parts without doing research on the code first.
There are more than one problem that can trigger one code. If your Fiat check engine light is flashing, it means that the onboard diagnostics system OBD has detected engine misfire. In other words, one or more of the cylinders is not working properly. It is not recommended to drive your Fiat if the check engine light is flashing. Driving your Fiat with CEL flashing can cause more damage to the engine and catalytic converter. If you decide to drive your Fiat when the CEL stays on, you should carefully monitor dashboard warning lights and the engine temperature.

These are stored in response to a problem found in the car by the system.
These DTC's identify a particular problem area and are intended to provide the technician with a guide as to where a fault might be occurring within the vehicle. They're the cause for indicator light malfunction on the dashboard. Codes should be used in conjunction with the vehicle's service manual to discover which systems, circuits or components should be tested to fully diagnose the fault with a car code reader or professional OBD2 software. Parts or components should not be replaced with reference to only a malfunctioning indicator lamp check engine fault light.
The vehicle service manual should be consulted for more information on possible causes of the fault, along with required testing. For example, if a DTC reports a sensor fault, replacement of the sensor is unlikely to resolve the underlying problem.
The fault is most likely to be caused by the systems that the sensor is monitoring, but might even be caused by the wiring to the sensor itself.
DTCs may also be triggered by faults earlier down the line. For example, a dirty MAF sensor might be causing the car to overcompensate in its fuel-trim adjustments. As a result, oxygen sensors are likely to report fuel mixture problems. You can also access the database by downloading the printable offline version of OBD2 codes ideal for auto mechanics.
TIP: This helpful resource site will reveal problem, cause, solution for every obd fault code which is picked up via computer software for car diagnostics. In general, codes that begin with P0 are Generic codes, whereas codes that begin with P1 are manufacturer-specific.
Additional code groups are however available to allow for expansion of these code lists. The full breakdown of the code groups is shown below:. TIP: To quickly find an error code, use your browsers Search function. Home Contact Support Knowledgebase Downloads.

Join Date: Jul Although it is in Italian you can easily translate whatever you need with Google Translate select Italian and English and do some guessing to make sense of the automatic translation. This seems to be much better that any English lists that I have seen before. For example error code P is usually described "Oxygen sensor heater resistance" while it tends to pop up when misfires or throttle problems occur on hot engine.
This sounds rubbish because heater works only on cold engine and then is switched off - should not pop up when engine experiences any misfires or engine stalls, never. However, if one translates what this list says for P it is "Upstream oxygen sensor voltage below lower limit" what means the sensor circuit reading is wrong, not its heater! Makes much more sense to me Note this does not necessarily mean the sensor itself is faulty This is yet another general list probably Ford.
It is NOT Fiat specific. Cylinder No 6 injector.

So before replacing your engine parts, try Carbon Cleaning. A dirty engine as the result of carbon deposits is the new threat to vehicle performance. How to check engine light codes?
Early Warning System Modern vehicles are equipped with onboard computers that monitor the critical systems in your car and warn you when something is going wrong.
So many possibilities The reasons for a check engine light activation range from something as simple as a loose gas cap to something as serious as a faulty catalytic convertor. Below is a list of a few of the possible problems that could cause your check engine light to activate. How to read trouble codes?
The scan tool will then display the trouble code or codes that have been set. Most scan tools will display the trouble code and a one line description or definition of the code.
Fiat Specific ECU EOBD OBD DTC Error Codes List (Full)
Some basic code readers may only give you the number but no definition. Note: You cannot diagnose a Check Engine Light without a scan tool! Although you can access trouble codes on some vehicles via the Driver Information Display if you know the procedure for doing so. If you don't have a scan tool, many auto parts stores and even some repair shop will do a FREE plug in diagnosis to read out the codes.
If you have trouble code. Write down the code number. The code will tell you which sensors or systems are experiencing a problem. If the scan tool does not provide a definition, you will have to look up the code definition where ever you can find it online, in a shop manual…. How to clear trouble codes? The best way to erase trouble codes is to use a scan tool.
The tool communicates with the vehicle computer and tells it to erase the codes. It does not alter any other learned settings that should be retained for normal vehicle operation. The worst way to clear codes is to disconnect the battery.
In older vehicles those made beforedisconnecting the battery even for a few seconds, or removing the power fuse for the engine computer PCM will erase the codes, along with all of the other learned settings the computer has stored over time. Note: Clearing the codes will not keep the Check Engine light off. Sooner or later, the codes will reset and the Check Engine light will be back on unless the problem that caused the code to set in the first place has been diagnosed and repaired.
Caution: Disconnecting the battery to clear codes on many and newer vehicles is NOT a good idea because it may cause the PCM to forget critical settings.
This may have an adverse effect on the operation of the transmission, climate control system and other functions. This, in turn, may require special "relearn" procedures using a factory scan tool or professional grade scan tool to restore proper operation of the affected systems. Note: Clearing codes with a scan tool, or disconnecting the battery will also reset all of the OBD system monitors back to zero, meaning your vehicle won't be accepted for an OBD plug-in emissions inspection until all of the monitors have run and completed.
How reset your warning light? Before pay a mechanic, destroy carbon thanks to decarbonization. Make your online diagnosis.Remember Me? What is the oil supply solenoid valve? Results 1 to 7 of 7. Thread: DTC Codes Thread Tools Show Printable Version.
DTC Codes I've brought the car in a few times already and they can't seem to wrap their heads around it. One time the service manager asked if I just wanted to trade the car in. Yes, because I've always wanted a second version of a car that no one could fix.
Any ideas what the oil supply solenoid valve is? Codes that keep coming back. Stuck at work, but I'll look it up when I get home. Enjoy the Forum, or has it helped? Please Whitelist us on your Ad Blocker. Originally Posted by nyc eng. Last edited by Jester49; at PM.

The valve lift and timing can be adjusted infinitely. The MultiAir valve train has a mechanical camshaft lobe acting on a hydraulic pump located between the camshaft intake lobe and the intake valve. During the event the VVA Solenoid is commanded to either hold oil pressure or bleed oil.
The PCM provides 12 volts to close the solenoid. The position of the VVA Solenoid determines the intake valve timing and lift. This change on valve action is similar to creating a change in the camshaft lobe profile affecting lift and duration of the valve opening.
